Public education in Pakistan continues to suffer from longstanding neglect. Many government schools operate without essential facilities, leaving students in uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe learning environments. Classrooms are often poorly maintained, and many buildings require urgent repairs. In numerous areas, teachers struggle due to limited training opportunities and the absence of updated teaching materials.
In rural districts, several schools have become non-functional despite appearing active in official records. Children must travel far from their villages in search of a functioning school, and even then, the quality of instruction rarely meets national standards. This situation discourages families from sending their children to school, particularly girls who already face mobility challenges. A weak education system limits future prospects for millions of students, making it difficult for them to develop the skills needed to participate in a competitive global economy.
The country cannot move forward unless its youth are equipped with meaningful learning opportunities.
The government must take sustained action by investing in proper monitoring mechanisms, teacher development, and school infrastructure. Without decisive steps, the education system will continue to drift, leaving an entire generation at a disadvantage.
