Crisis of healthcare

Letter November 23, 2025
Crisis of healthcare

The healthcare situation in Balochistan — particularly in the Makran region — has reached a critical point. Although several hospitals exist, they are largely non-functional. Most facilities operate without qualified doctors or proper equipment. As a result, thousands of citizens are forced to travel long distances to other provinces or even abroad to seek medical treatment for their children and families.

In many villages, people suffering from serious illnesses simply go untreated because they cannot afford travel or private healthcare. Some lose their lives while others live with debilitating conditions. The absence of functioning hospitals and life-saving equipment leaves vulnerable communities with nowhere to turn.

Crucial medical services are unavailable in most hospitals across Makran while many doctors posted in the region lack the necessary training. Patients are left without proper diagnosis, care or attention.

The government must urgently implement a comprehensive and practical plan to strengthen Balochistan’s healthcare system. This includes completing hospital construction projects and deploying qualified medical professionals in remote locations, all while ensuring a steady supply of medicines and equipment. Without these measures, diseases that can easily be treated will continue to claim lives. Healthcare is a basic right and the people of Balochistan deserve a functioning healthcare system that values people over profit.
