The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an important agreement by countries that have promised to protect children’s rights. The Convention on the Rights of the Child explains who children are, all their rights and the responsibilities of governments. All the rights are connected; they are all equally significant and they cannot be taken away from children.
The definition of a child is anyone under the age of 18. World Children’s Day was passed by the United Nations to recognise the rights of children. Some rights of children include non-discrimination, regardless of caste, creed, language, class or status. Families and communities should be guided by governments for the better development of the child. According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, it is also the utmost responsibility of governments to ensure the life, survival and development of children.
Unfortunately, children are deprived of healthcare facilities that can save their lives when they need timely care from concerned hospitals. Children have the basic right for their views to be respected, and they must be listened to. However, their views and opinions are often disregarded, and no weightage is given. Nowadays, violence is prevalent in the country, and it is a fundamental right to protect children from violence. Children encounter violence in homes and at different places.
The first and foremost right of children is an education. Governments must ensure free and quality education for children. It is only by taking care of our children do we take care of our nation.
