Not every hero wears a cape

Letter November 16, 2025
Not every hero wears a cape

Today Babar Azam reminded us of leadership that isn’t defined by a title, but by the calm he brings to Pakistan’s innings.

Critics have been calling him “out of form’ or ‘finished’  after holding him to an unrealistically high standard, any dip no matter how small gets blown out of proportion. His century today was more than just runs, it was a quiet rebuttal to every doubt, proving that true class doesn’t disappear; it simply waits for the right moment to speak. What stood out the most was his leadership without a title. Even without the captaincy, he anchors the innings, steadies the dressing room and carries the responsibility that others often shy away from. His influence doesn’t come from an armband, it comes from the way he plays when it matters the most.

We forget too quickly, and we judge too harshly. In Pakistan cricket, one bad game becomes a crisis and one quiet series becomes an ill narrative but players like Babar remind us that form is temporary, and expectation should never overshadow class.

Today’s century was not just a milestone, but a reminder that some players don’t need noise, positions or titles to lead, they just perform.
