Dengue virus is spreading unchecked in Shapuk area of Balochistan. The number of cases is rising every day, causing fear and suffering among the residents. Lack of proper sanitation, stagnant water and poor health facilities are the main reasons behind the rapid spread of this deadly disease in our locality.
The government must take immediate action to control the dengue outbreak by: launching a massive fumigation campaign; raising public awareness; creating a joint tracking system along with private hospitals; ensuring constant availability of test kits; and funding research on emerging viral forms.
Without consistent strategies and honest reporting, dengue is highly likely to remain a persistent threat to the nation’s health.
