In today’s digital world, social media platforms have become a primary source of news for millions of people. But often, it is misused to spread fake news and fake information, misleading the younger generation.
The spread of fake news can have both personal and academic consequences. In a perfect world, media reports would always be fact-based, and you would be able to trust that the media you consume is reliable. But unfortunately, that is mere fantasy.
For example, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, a fake news story spread on social media claiming that drinking concentrated alcohol or bleach could kill the virus. Many people started believing this false information and consumed harmful substances, which led to thousands of poisonings and even deaths, especially in countries like Iran and the USA.
Therefore, It is very important for people to verify news before sharing it. The government should introduce strict laws against those who spread fake news deliberately to curtail misinformation and harmful consequences.
