We cannot ignore the contribution of DJ Sindh Government Science College in the history of Karachi. This is an institution that has produced countless medical graduates who are now serving in various hospitals and medical institutes across Pakistan. Many of its alumni have also made their mark overseas, working in different departments and representing Pakistan’s academic excellence abroad.
Under the leadership of many senior principals over the years, DJ College has played a vital role in preparing generations of doctors and graduate engineers. However, it is deeply unfortunate to observe that the college is gradually losing its former charm. One of the main reasons for this decline is incompetent leadership.
While DJ College still has a highly qualified faculty — many of whom hold PhDs — there remains a significant issue of gender imbalance in leadership. No female professor has ever been appointed as principal in the entire history of the college, largely due to its male-dominated culture.
I hereby request the government to consider appointing a female principal at DJ Sindh Government Science College. The institution is in urgent need of inclusive and progressive leadership, and it is high time a qualified female candidate was given the opportunity to lead.
