Corrupt leaders

Letter September 17, 2025
Corrupt leaders

Many in the country blame government for every failure. In reality, a democratic government is an institution, not an individual. What truly fails us are our local representatives who misuse authority for their own interests. The real question is: should we condemn the government or the corrupt leaders who exploit it?

As a Baloch, I have witnessed this problem closely. The federal government provides sufficient funds, yet our local representatives neglect us. In June 2025, a budget of Rs1,028 billion was passed for Balochistan. It was a surplus budget, intended to make improvement in education, health, agriculture, energy and other vital sectors. However, there are no quality schools, public libraries or effective health programmes in the province. On July 1, another Rs50 billion was released, but there is change in the lot of the common man.

So who deserves condemnation? Not the government that allocates resources, but our areas representatives who appropriate the allocated funds and betray us. It is time we held them accountable instead of blaming the system.
