Electricity theft

Letter September 06, 2025
Electricity theft

The people of Karachi are paying high electricity charges besides bearing tormenting load-shedding. K-Electric claims that load shedding happens in areas where electricity is being stolen, but whose job is it to stop electricity theft?
It is inexplicable that some areas are suffering from load-shedding despite being fully billed only due to certain illegal connections. This is a reality faced by the people of North Karachi Sectors-8 and 11-A. Despite full bill payments, they endure load-shedding of one and a half hours, four times a day.

People of both sectors complained to the concerned K-Electric office situated in sector 5C-1, who replied that unnecessary load on grid owing to electricity theft is the reason for load-shedding. The question arises: why must those paying electricity charges in full endure load-shedding, when it is K-Electric’s duty to catch thieves?

Higher authorities are requested to intervene and resolve this matter so that electricity theft may be stopped and people who pay their bills on time get rid of unjustified load-shedding and receive uninterrupted electricity.
