Health workers play a significant role in saving lives and serving the community, but despite their valuable contribution, they face serious violence and threats. According to reports, incidents of armed groups attacking or obstructing health services in Pakistan tripled in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Vaccination campaigns are the major target. At least 15 health workers lost their lives last year alone. This is a sharp rise from previous years. This situation is alarming, not only putting the lives of these workers in danger but also affecting essential health services for people.
The government must take urgent steps to ensure their safety so they can continue their mission without fear. Protecting the health workers is protecting the public health.
