Unsafe train travel

Unsafe train travel

On 1st August, Islamabad Express met an accident near Kala Shah Kaku, about 50 kilometers from Lahore. The train was on its way to Rawalpindi when seven of its bogies derailed. According to news reports, at least 27 people were injured, including women and children. Thankfully, no deaths were reported. This incident has once again raised serious questions about the safety and condition of Pakistan Railways.

This is not the first such incident. In fact, this was the third major railway accident in just the past two weeks. Earlier, Jaffar Express also derailed in Sindh. These repeated accidents show that there are serious faults in the railway system. Old tracks, poor maintenance, outdated signals and lack of proper checking before departures are all major reasons behind these accidents.

It is very sad to see that a department that used to be the pride of our country is now facing such frequent failures. Passengers feel unsafe while traveling, and the trust in Pakistan Railways is decreasing. The government and railway authorities must take immediate steps. All tracks should be checked properly, the old ones should be replaced, and a complete safety inspection must be done in every zone. Staff should be trained properly, and emergency response teams should be ready near sensitive routes.

Train travel is still affordable for millions of people. If safety is not ensured, we may see more tragic events in the future. I request the authorities to take this matter seriously and fix the railway system before more lives are put at risk.
