The electricity crisis in Landhi area of Karachi is no small agony to the residents. Electricity supply is suspended four times a day, with each outage lasting three hours. This frequent and prolonged loadshedding particularly affects students, especially during exams. They are unable to prepare properly due to power cuts and are forced to study on mobile screens in the dark, which leads to eye strain and weak eyesight.
Every summer, people suffer from extreme heat, many even lose their lives too, simply because they cannot afford a generator, UPS, or solar panel. The residents of Landhi, mostly from lower-income backgrounds, are among the worst affected. People are living in poverty, and the electricity crisis is only deepening their suffering.
Moreover, the absence of uninterrupted electricity supply has disrupted normal life in every possible way. People are unable to sleep peacefully at night, and due to incomplete rest, many arrive late to work, which results in salary cuts. Disruption in sleep cycles also affects health over time. In short, this electricity crisis is damaging lives, especially for the poor, who already live on the edge of survival.
The relevant authorities must take serious steps to at least reduce the duration of load shedding from 3 hours to just 1, so that the residents of Landhi may live with dignity and relief.
