We often hear that solar eases grid demand, but technical data tells a different story. Rapid rooftop adoption has introduced challenges such as reverse power flows, transformer overloading and voltage instability, especially during midday solar peaks. Grid operators are facing both technical and financial stress, with no mechanism to recover costs from the users contributing to the imbalance.
Pakistan currently lacks a formal Solar Code to manage these risks. Countries like Australia have mandated smart inverters and time-based feed-in to regulate pressure on infrastructure. Without similar protocols, we are risking both grid reliability and public trust. Support for solar should be accompanied by structural rules, not just financial incentives.
