The elephants in Pakistan remain suffering due to the negligence of zookeepers. Saheli was the first to die in 2012 and suffered harsh injuries from the chains she was tied to in Islamabad Zoo. Subsequently, the Lahore Zoo lost its only elephant named Suzi in 2017. She also suffered similarly.
Last year, Karachi Zoo lost its elephant named Noor Jahan once again due to the negligence of zookeepers. And shortly after that, due to a foot infection caused by damaged concrete and persistent moist conditions in her enclosure, her sister Sonia also passed away.
These heart-wrenching deaths happen due to the lack of trained staff, and inadequate enclosure maintenance and health checkups. I urge the government to take note of these incidences of cruelty and provide justice to voiceless beings.
