Failing transport

Letter July 06, 2025
Failing transport

The public transport system in Rawalpindi is in extremely poor condition. For thousands of people who rely on buses, wagons and rickshaws every day, commuting has become a stressful and exhausting task.
Public vehicles are often overcrowded, poorly maintained and irregular in schedule.

Women, students and the elderly are especially affected, as they face not only discomfort but also harassment and long waiting hours. The lack of a reliable, affordable and safe transport system reduces productivity and adds to public frustration. While some projects like Metrobus and Orange Line are commendable, they only cover limited areas. There is a need for an integrated, modern, and nationwide public transport network that serves the majority, not just a few.

I request the authorities to pay serious attention to this issue and make public transport a budgetary and developmental priority.
