In today’s fast-paced world, many parents hand over digital devices to their children to keep them occupied and have themselves a moment of peace. While this practice may seem convenient, it comes with alarming consequences. Excessive screen time is linked to poor physical health, disrupted sleep patterns, delayed learning, behavioural problems, weaker social skills, and exposure to harmful online content.
A study published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health highlighted that children spending more than two hours daily on screens are at a higher risk of developing depression and anxiety.
To address this growing issue, the government must launch awareness campaigns to educate parents about healthy screen habits and enforce stricter regulations where necessary. Parents should set screen time limits, encourage outdoor activities, create tech-free zones, use parental controls, model balanced digital habits, and maintain open conversations with their children.
