The recent increase in petrol prices has hit the average Pakistani hard. For many of us, commuting, running a small business or even sending children to school has become even more expensive — again. These constant hikes don’t just raise transport costs, they drive up the price of food, goods and other daily essentials.
People are already struggling with inflation, high electricity bills and job issues. For a daily wage earner or a salaried person, this added burden feels unfair. Meanwhile there’s little sign of relief or a long-term plan.
We don’t just need price adjustments, but rather direct solutions. Investment in public transport, alternative energy and real efforts to reduce pressure on the public are badly needed. Policymakers should pay heed to the public who is bearing the consequences of such hikes.
