Quetta’s silent struggle

Quetta’s silent struggle

Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, is facing many serious problems that still remain ignored. Unlike other provincial capitals, Quetta lacks basic facilities like good infrastructure, proper hospitals, quality education and enough job opportunities.

To start with, roads in Quetta are in a very bad condition and often cause accidents. In just one quarter of 2024, the city had witnessed 14 accidents. The Quetta-Karachi highway, known as the “Killer Highway”, has seen over countless deaths. Additionally, education is also in crisis in Quetta. Out of 678 government schools in the city, 149 are non-functional. Many schools don’t have toilets, electricity, clean water, or even proper buildings. Healthcare is no better. Most people travel to Karachi for treatment. Civil Hospital, with 800 beds, handles 8,000 to 10,000 patients on a daily basis, but lacks modern equipment and supplies.

The government must pay attention to the provincial capital and fix these issues before the situation gets even worse.
