Unskilled butchers

KARACHI:

A growing issue of unprofessional butchers operating during Eid season is making its way to our cities. This is a time when the demand for butchers increases, but unfortunately, many individuals posing as butchers lack the proper skills, training and ethics needed for this important task.

Their unprofessional behaviour is not only inconvenient but also dangerous. Untrained butchers often mishandle animals, causing them unnecessary pain and distress. In several cases, animals have been injured or traumatised due to improper techniques. Moreover, this carelessness can also put people at risk. There have been incidents of injuries to both bystanders and the butchers themselves due to the use of sharp tools without proper safety measures.

Furthermore, many of these individuals ignore basic hygiene. They perform the slaughter and prepare the meat in unsanitary conditions, which poses serious health risks to families and communities. The blood and waste left behind often attract flies and stray animals, leading to the spread of disease.

It is crucial that local authorities take this issue seriously. There should be strict regulations to ensure that only trained and certified individuals are allowed to offer butchering services, especially during this period. Awareness campaigns and penalties for unprofessional conduct can help improve the situation.
