Delays in development

Delays in development

Sindh University’s Laar Campus, Badin, which was established in 2007 with four departments, is facing shocking delays in its development. Despite the allocation of 94 acres of land years ago for a new campus, not a single building has been constructed.

While budgets have been repeatedly reflected in official documents, they remain unapproved, leaving the project in limbo. In the 2024-25 ADP scheme, a budget of Rs2,365 million is once again awaiting approval. Meanwhile, over 800 students continue to suffer in substandard facilities.

The Laar Campus should be converted into an independent, sovereign university to serve the entire region, ensuring better governance and academic growth. The Laar region — including Badin, Tharparkar, Sujawal, Tando Mohammad Khan, and Thatta — is home to thousands of lower- and middle-class students who deserve access to quality education at their doorstep. Instead, they are forced to either endure poor learning conditions or migrate to distant cities, burdening families already struggling financially.

The elected representatives of Badin must break their silence and urgently raise this issue in the assemblies. The people of Laar have waited 18 years for progress; they cannot wait any longer. It is time to fulfill this promise and build a future for the youth of Sindh.
