Gas from Sui powers homes across Pakistan, but the people of Dera Bugti still burn wood to cook. Despite sitting on rich gas fields for decades, the Bugti tribe remains poor and ignored. Most locals have been doing only low-paid jobs because of lack of education and training. Old agreements made during Gen Ayub’s time are still not honoured.
Over 60 per cent of the tribe lives below poverty line. Out of 300 schools, only 20 are functioning. Female education is almost zero, and healthcare is missing. Clean water is a luxury, and gas connections are given to only a few, while the rest live like it’s still the past.
This neglect is creating anger and hopelessness. The government must act now — restore jobs, open schools, fix hospitals and give basic rights to these people. They deserve better — much better.
