Fishermen in Gwadar are facing serious challenges in sustaining their livelihoods due to the negligence of government authorities and the unchecked exploitation by local companies, trawler mafias and oil supply ships. The trawlers indiscriminately catch marine species, contributing to the alarming extinction of vital fish populations.
Despite their destructive impact on marine ecosystems, no effective action has been taken to hold these mafias accountable. These fish species are essential for local fishermen who rely on them to meet their basic needs.
Moreover, local companies offer unfairly low prices for their catch, worsening the economic conditions of fishing communities. As a result, many families struggle to access healthcare, education and other fundamental necessities, leaving them trapped in a cycle of poverty.
