Youm-e-Takbeer

Letter May 29, 2025
Youm-e-Takbeer

Youm-e-Takbeer, observed annually on May 28, commemorates Pakistan’s successful nuclear tests in 1998, marking the country’s emergence as the world’s seventh and the Muslim world’s first nuclear power. Pakistan is now commemorating the 27th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer. This significant event was a response to India’s nuclear tests and aggressive statements, particularly regarding Kashmir. Pakistan’s nuclear tests strengthened its defence and restored strategic stability in South Asia.

The decision to develop nuclear capabilities was driven by India’s nuclear tests in 1974 and 1998, as well as its conventional military superiority. India’s actions have consistently threatened regional stability, including seemingly planning a military confrontation to destroy Pakistan’s nuclear facilities in 1981 and devising the Cold Start Doctrine to cripple Pakistan’s economy and war machinery.

Youm-e-Takbeer serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests. The nation pays tribute to the scientists, engineers, and soldiers who worked tirelessly to make the country a nuclear power.

The day reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to defending its freedom and maintaining peace in the region. It has established itself as a responsible nuclear power, committed to peace and stability, and will continue to defend its sovereignty and national interests.
