There is hardly a single day when multiple motorcycles are not snatched in the small town of Johi in Sindh. Last week a group of civil society organisations held a sit-in protest by blocking the Johi-Dadu road demanding improvements in the law and order situation within the region.
The very next day the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dadu held an open discussion at the Johi Police Station. He assured the citizens that law and order would be maintained at all costs in the district. However, in a shocking incident the following day snatchers stole a motorcycle from an eighth-grade student right outside the gate of the Johi Police Station.
Since the SSP’s meeting, criminal activities have rather increased, raising serious questions regarding the impact and power of the police force. Are thieves truly more powerful than the police? Or is the police force knowingly allowing these crimes to happen? If the SSP and his team are unable to protect public lives and property, they should take accountability and reflect on their shortcomings that are barring them from fulfilling their duty.
