In the heart of Multan lies Chungi No 9, a historic hub that has long connected the city’s diverse swathes. This vital intersection, linking five major roads, has been a linchpin of Multan’s infrastructure for a very long time. Yet, despite its importance, Chungi No 9 has been left to crumble with its repair works dragging on for months, leaving the city in a state of gridlock.
The district administration’s apathy towards this critical infrastructure is staggering, and it is clear that they are turning a blind eye to the plight of commuters. No alternative route has been provided, leaving residents and tourists alike to navigate using Google Maps on the broken roads, which has become a recipe for unsavouriness.
The consequences have become dire: increased traffic congestion and a significant rise in accidents have made it worse for inhabitants. As the most-used road by the public, Chungi No 9 is a crucial artery that connects Band Bosan to the inner city, the cantonment to the rest of Multan, and numerous public sector institutions. Thousands of citizens rely on this road daily, and its dilapidated state has made their daily commute a perilous journey, fraught with risk.
It is high time the authorities took the bull by the horns and addressed this issue. Such incidents are not isolated, and the lack of action from authorities has put countless lives at risk. It is imperative that the district authorities take immediate action to repair Chungi No 9 at their earliest. The administration must get its act together and restore this vital artery to its former glory, rather than paying lip service to the needs of its citizens. The people of Multan deserve better than to be left high and dry.
