Cheating in exams

Cheating in exams

Cheating amongst Pakistani students is unfortunately a very common practices, especially in boards examinations. It is important to ask what the root cause of such dishonest practices is, and what exactly is encouraging students to cheat?

Many causes come to mind, including a poor educational system, peer pressure, and the normalisation of cheating in our society. Government school teachers often teach their subjects in such a disconnected manner, often even leaving the course incomplete.

Moreover, an understanding that ‘everyone does it’ detaches student from the dishonest implications of cheating that will ultimately only harm them in the longer run. Cheating is seen as acceptable, even encouraged sometimes.

The government must ensure that students’ education is not compromised no matter what. An appreciation of education will consequently deter students from cheating. We need to address this issue at its root, hopefully instigating generational change in times to come.
