Road safety

Every day, countless lives are affected by road accidents—some resulting in serious injuries, others tragically ending in death. With increasing traffic on our roads, it is more important than ever to understand and practice road safety. Pedestrians must be especially cautious while crossing roads. If there is no designated pedestrian crossing, one should look both ways — right and left — before stepping onto the road, and cross only when it is completely safe.

Many students commute to school by bus or bicycle. It is vital for them to remain alert when they are near traffic and avoid cycling too close to the middle of the road. Riding a bicycle requires extra care. Bicycles should always be in good working condition, with functional brakes and lights. Cycling on wet roads or at high speeds can increase the risk of accidents.

Equally, all road users must obey traffic rules. Speeding, reckless driving, and negligence are major contributors to road accidents. The responsibility for road safety lies not only with the government but also with every individual. Proper infrastructure and enforcement are essential, but so is our personal commitment to safe behavior.
