KARACHI:
The prices of sacrificial animals are soaring ahead of Eid. Every year, Muslims across the country eagerly prepare to fulfill their religious duty of sacrifice. However, this year, the prices of animals such as goats, cows, and sheep have skyrocketed, making it difficult for many middle and low-income families to afford them.
The sharp increase in prices seems to be driven by a combination of factors: unchecked inflation, high transportation costs, and the lack of price regulation in livestock markets. While it is understandable that traders aim to make a profit, the excessive rates are causing distress to many who wish to participate in this important religious tradition.
Relevant authorities must monitor livestock markets, ensure fair pricing, and prevent exploitative practices. It is also essential to create awareness among sellers and buyers to practice fairness and empathy, so that the spirit of Eid — sharing and sacrifice — is upheld in its true sense.
