In the past, a train called the Mianwali Express operated between Kundian and Rawalpindi. It was eventually discontinued, perhaps due to a shortage of locomotives or financial constraints. But for many residents of the area, this train was the only accessible means of reaching Rawalpindi and other major cities.
About two decades have passed since the train was abolished. During this time, the region’s population has increased manifold, yet its people remain deprived of railway travel. Restoring Mianwali Express would not only be beneficial for the people but it would also generate substantial revenue for Pakistan Railways.
Train travel is widely preferred for its safety, comfort, and enjoyable experience. Therefore, the management of Pakistan Railways is urged to consider reinstating this vital service and extend the benefits of safe and reliable rail travel to the people of the region.
