Electricity loadshedding during intense heatwaves is outrageous. WAPDA does not provide electricity to houses that pay their bills on time, while those using illegal connections continue to enjoy free electricity. To make matters worse, WAPDA officials often accept bribes from such individuals, turning a blind eye to the theft.
To ensure this illegal stream of income continues, WAPDA officials cut off the power supply for people who are naively relying on them to deliver electricity in a just manner. This abhorrent culture of corruption is deeply embedded within the system and makes the fair distribution of electricity an impossible feat.
The government must take strict measures to eliminate the system of bribery within WAPDA and ensure electricity is supplied to those areas in Hyderabad where consumers pay their bills properly. If someone fails to pay their bill in a particular area, their connection should be cut off. However, those who pay on time, who are essentially WAPDA’s star customers, should not be penalised for others’ negligence.
