Exam uncertainty

Letter May 01, 2025
Exam uncertainty

Students sitting for their intermediate examinations are facing multiple challenges navigating an uncertain schedule as the Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has postponed exams that were scheduled to start on April 22, 2025.

The board issued a notice delaying the examinations due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ almost three weeks ago. Many students have already travelled long distances to appear for the examinations and have had to travel back to their cities to attend classes. And now, unfortunately, the board has announced that exams are to take place starting from May 2, 2025.

This sudden and unexpected announcement makes it arduous for students who have already travelled once and may not necessarily have the means to make another journey so soon. A lot of students in Balochistan belong to lower-income families and high costs of commute make the entire situation even more stressful. On the other hand, there still stands a chance that the board decides to delay the examinations once again. Neither can students travel again, nor can they stay.

The government of Balochistan must address this issue on an urgent basis and announce a suitable date for intermediate examinations. The students await a just and timely response and are eager to not let this debacle affect their education.
