Gastroenteritis outbreak

Gastroenteritis outbreak

The dangerous outbreak of gastroenteritis is rapidly spreading in Bahawalpur, fuelled by the extreme heatwave currently gripping the region. According to reports, in the past two weeks, 1580 people have been impacted by this ailment. Unfortunately, 93 new cases have been reported in just 24 hours. These rising numbers reflect an escalating public health crisis that could worsen significantly if not addressed with immediate and effective intervention.

While this concerning situation has largely been caused by intense heat, a substantial number of cases are also linked to the consumption of unhygienic street food and unsafe drinking water. The combination of poor hygiene practices and environmental factors has created the ideal conditions for the rapid spread of this illness.

Appropriate actions, such as increasing public awareness, ensuring access to clean drinking water, regulating street food vendors, and enhancing medical response units, should be taken wisely to protect our people.
