With the increasing use of the internet and social media, many individuals, especially young people, are becoming victims of online bullying, abuse, threats, and defamation. This form of harassment often goes unnoticed but can have deep emotional and psychological effects on the victim.
Not only does online harassment invades one’s privacy but it also creates fear and anxiety in the victim’s mind – even leading to self-harm or depression in some cases. It is important that strong measures are taken to tackle this problem. Authorities must strengthen cyber laws, promote digital safety awareness, and ensure that platforms are held accountable for harmful content.
At the same time, users must be encouraged to report abusive behaviour and use the internet responsibly. Education on online etiquette and mental health support is also essential.
