Exploitation on highway

Exploitation on highway

It has become customary for eateries along highways in Karachi, especially on the Super Highway (M-9) and National Highway, to charge unreasonably high prices for basic meals and beverages, in addition to extremely high taxes.

Exploiting this route makes it difficult for travellers, including families and truck drivers, to afford a decent meal. Not only that, but despite immensely high costs, these restaurants also fail to maintain food quality and proper hygiene standards. This results in many travellers feeling like they are being charged unfairly, with a glaring lack of quality service when compared with the charges.

There is a dire need to regulate food prices, review restaurant taxes, and ensure fair pricing for travellers who are often out of options and are forced to dine in. Along with that, consistent monitoring of hygiene practices should take place so that these restaurants maintain their standards of service. It is quite easy to exploit customers who are not presented with alternatives, therefore strict regulation is of utmost importance.
