Contaminated water

Contaminated water

Shahabad is one of the most densely populated areas located to the east of Turbat city. This locality is currently grappling with an acute shortage of clean drinking water. Residents are being forced to consume contaminated and brackish water, which poses serious health risks and reflects grave failure on part of the government in providing basic public services.

Access to clean water is amiss despite residents being charged Rs1000 per household monthly by WAPDA. This not only puts an additional strain on the families but also raises questions about transparency and accountability in service delivery. If citizens are being billed, they are entitled to a consistent and safe water supply.

The Public Health Engineering Department and the local administration are both responsible for this crisis and are required to take immediate and concrete steps to resolve it. They must ensure that every household receives its due share of clean drinking water as it is a basic human right, not a privilege — and the people of Shahabad can no longer afford to be ignored.
