A number of fruit vendors have unlawfully encroached upon the main road along the wall of the NBP, located beside the Matric Board Office in Karachi. This has led to frequent traffic congestion, creating immense difficulties for commuters and raising the risk of accidents due to blocked roads and lack of emergency access.
The problem is further aggravated by the proximity of the Matric Board Office, which receives a large number of visitors daily. The obstruction caused by these vendors disrupts the regular functioning of the board office and makes access extremely difficult for all concerned. What is more alarming is the serious security threat posed by this situation. Individuals visiting the NBP for financial transactions often feel unsafe due to the crowd, as it provides cover for potential criminal elements. There is growing concern that such gatherings are being exploited by criminals to conduct surveillance and execute robberies, putting innocent lives at risk.
Even more concerning is the alleged involvement of local law enforcement and municipal officials. It is widely reported by local residents and shopkeepers that these vendors continue to operate with impunity, allegedly paying daily bribes to members of the police and KMC.
In light of the above, the relevant authorities must take immediate and decisive action. The encroachments must be removed, and a permanent solution enforced to restore traffic flow and ensure the safety and convenience of the public. Those found aiding this illegal occupation should be held accountable.
