The worsening condition of Karachi University’s point bus service is quite concerning. These buses were once a lifeline for students to reach campus safely and affordably, but sadly, they have now become a source of stress and danger. The buses are overcrowded, poorly maintained, and no longer meet the needs of the university’s large student population.
Every day, students are forced to travel in extremely uncomfortable and unsafe conditions. Conductors often push students into overcrowded buses just to make space, making it hard for those inside to even breathe. Even when the bus is full, they continue to make students stand at the doors, which is highly dangerous.
Many students coming from distant areas are unable to find any space at all. This is not a one-time issue — it is a daily struggle that is seriously affecting students’ academic performance, punctuality and overall well-being. The main reasons behind this situation are lack of funding, poor maintenance and administrative negligence. Students have protested multiple times, but unfortunately, no action has been taken.
The university administration and the Sindh government must urgently look into this worsening situation. New buses must be added, the number of buses increased and the existing ones be properly repaired. At least two buses should be allocated for each major area to ensure that students have safe and reliable transport.
