Growing traffic woes and the lack of proper public transport in Karachi warrant an urgent attention from the relevant authorities. As the largest city in Pakistan, Karachi truly deserves a modern and efficient transportation system. Unfortunately, poor traffic management, a surge in vehicles and crumbling roads have turned commuting into a real headache.
The absence of a dependable public transport system leaves people with no choice but to rely on unsafe buses, pricey rickshaws and their own cars. While the Green Line BRT was a positive development, it’s still not enough for a city with over 20 million residents. To make matters worse, frequent road encroachments, reckless driving and haphazard construction only add to the chaos.
The authorities should urgently expand the BRT network, bring back the Karachi Circular Railway and enforce traffic laws more strictly. If an immediate action is not taken, traffic congestion will keep disrupting daily life and economic activities.
