Babar’s exclusion

Babar’s exclusion

KARACHI:

The decision to drop Babar Azam from the national T20 squad for the ongoing series against New Zealand is extremely shocking. Babar’s consistent performance has made him an integral member of the team and his presence brings much-needed stability and confidence to the batting lineup. Excluding such a key player feels neither wise nor fair — something that not only risks weakening the team’s performance but also damaging public trust in the selection process.

It’s true that nurturing emerging players is crucial for prolonged growth of Pakistan cricket. However, this goal should not come at the cost of sidelining experienced players like Babar Azam. The PCB should introduce youth alongside persisting with seasoned performers. Young players can grow and thrive under the mentorship of world-class batsmen like Babar, learning the skills, mindset and discipline needed to excel on international stage.

The claims that Babar is no longer suited for the T20 format are baseless. His recent inclusion in the ICC T20 Team of the Year is a testament to his class. He remains one of the most dependable and inspiring figures in Pakistan cricket.

What Pakistan cricket truly needs is a balanced blend of experience and youth. Allowing young cricketers to grow under the guidance of proven performers like Babar Azam will help build a stronger, more confident team that can compete at the highest level. The PCB should reconsider its decision of excluding Babar Azam from the national T20 squad while acknowledging the importance of continuity, mentorship and balance in the team selection.
