As Ramazan approaches, many of us look forward to a month of spiritual reflection, community and celebration. However, for countless poor families, the holy month brings additional financial burdens.
The cost of basic necessities like food, fruits and vegetables skyrockets during Ramazan, making it challenging for low-income households to afford even the essentials for iftar and suhoor. The inflated prices of clothing and other necessities further exacerbate the difficulties faced by these families. It is disheartening to see shopkeepers taking advantage of the high demand during Ramazan, hiking prices and indulging in profiteering from the vulnerable. This not only affects the poor but also undermines the spirit of compassion, generosity and kindness that defines the holy month.
The issue of unaffordable prices is not just a matter of economic concern; it also has far-reaching implications for human growth and development. Access to nutritious food, adequate clothing and basic necessities is essential for maintaining dignity, promoting health and fostering a sense of well-being. The authorities need to take a serious notice of this issue and take concrete steps to control prices, protect consumers and ensure that the benefits of Ramazan are shared by all, regardless of their economic means.
