Awaran: need for road network

District Awaran is located in the south of Balochistan and is the largest district of the province, spread over an area of 29,510 square kilometers. But despite its vast size, the district lacks a proper road system, causing immense hardship for its citizens. The absence of roads not only causes waste of time but also increases the risk of accidents. Moreover, the lack of connectivity hinders economic growth, limits access to education and healthcare, and isolates the district from the rest of the country.
According to the available data, Awaran district has 527 kilometres of black-top roads and 1,282 kilometres of shingle roads. However, these roads mostly remain broken, making travel even more challenging.
There is need to prioritise the development of a comprehensive road network in the district. This would not only improve the quality of life for the residents but also unlock the district’s economic potential. Construction of new roads and maintenance of the existing ones would create employment opportunities, stimulate trade and increase access to essential services. Furthermore, it would strengthen the district’s connection with the rest of Pakistan, promoting national integration and unity.
The provincial government must take immediate action to address this critical issue and provide the people of Awaran with the infrastructure they deserve.
