Gwadar , a major city of Balochistan and the pivot of CPEC, continues to face a serious problem: a critical shortage of doctors. There are not enough doctors in the medical facilities of the city to cater to its growing population – something that is a cause for serious concern. Many patients have to travel to other cities to receive medical treatment – which is not just expensive but time-consuming as well. We have also seen cases where patients succumb while being taken to other cities for treatment.
While there has been much talk of infrastructure development in Balochistan, especially Gwadar, as part of CPEC, the shortage of this critical need for medical facilities as well as doctors is appalling. The relevant authorities must pay attention to this issue on an urgent basis. They must invest in improving medical facilities in the city and ensure that there are qualified doctors to attend to the patients.
