KARACHI:
Pakistan’s unreliable grid electricity has massively driven the general public towards solar energy. A combination of ever-increasing electricity tariffs and declining prices of solar panels imported from China has convinced all sectors, including residential, commercial, and governmental, to shift to renewable energy. The solar sector is also being heavily encouraged through policy measures and international cooperation. Frequent power shortages, high electricity costs, and energy insecurity have ultimately placed a damper on the country’s electricity grid. But the shift towards renewable energy is not only underlined by an inefficient electricity grid, it also comes at a time when the country’s coal and natural gas reserves are being depleted. The government must continue its efforts to promote a renewable energy system in the country so that it can achieve energy independence.
