Pakistan’s agriculture sector achieved a commendable growth of 6.25% in FY24, driven by significant increases in the output of key crops — wheat, cotton and rice. Despite this growth, farmers continue to face substantial challenges. The recent decline in sesame seed exports to China underscores the volatility of agricultural markets and the vulnerability of farmers to fluctuation in international demand.
To address these issues, it is imperative for the government to implement policies ensuring fair pricing, provide accessible credit facilities, and invest in agricultural infrastructure. Additionally, promoting sustainable farming practices and offering training on modern techniques can enhance productivity and resilience against market and climate uncertainties.
I call upon the government and the private sector to collaborate in creating a sustainable future for our farmers, and thereby the entire country.
