Higher education: distant dream

Higher education: distant dream

The state of higher education in Balochistan is a pressing concern that warrants immediate attention. For many, the term “higher education” seems like a distant dream, owing to the lack of facilities in small institutions and the absence of updates in curriculum systems. Students are forced to study outdated theories, hindering their ability to compete with peers from other provinces.
The responsibility for this sorry state of affairs lies squarely with the political leadership and the state. Unfortunately, they have not taken adequate steps to address these issues. Improving the education system in Balochistan is crucial, as it is the largest province in Pakistan, with a significant population.
Education is the key to a province’s development, but unfortunately, the people of Balochistan are deprived of this blessing. Many are forced to seek educational opportunities in other provinces, resulting in a brain drain that further exacerbates the region’s underdevelopment.
To address this issue, the government must prioritise higher education in Balochistan. This can be achieved by: establishing modern educational institutions with state-of-the-art facilities; updating curriculum systems to reflect contemporary knowledge and trends; providing scholarships and incentives to encourage students to pursue higher education; and encouraging public-private partnerships to promote educational development in the region.
By taking these steps, we can empower the people of Balochistan to drive their own development and prosperity.
