The Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Bridge at Hala Naka, Hyderabad — initiated more than 20 years ago to alleviate traffic congestion in the city — remains incomplete, significantly affecting the daily lives of commuters and residents in the area. Despite being a pivotal junction, the bridge project has been stalled, causing immense difficulties in traffic management. The long delay in the project is rather a cause of growing congestion on roads, more so after the recent relocation of the vegetable market to Hala Naka. The heavy traffic passing through Hala Naka exacerbates the situation, leading to frequent traffic jams that have become a distressing daily routine for commuters and travelers.
The bridge has the potential to ease traffic congestion, highlighting the urgency to complete the remaining construction. The authorities need to prioritise the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Bridge and expedite the construction work on it. Doing so will immensely benefit the entire community by significantly reducing traffic bottlenecks, ensuring smooth movement, and alleviating the daily hardships faced by the public. The relevant authorities and policymakers must take immediate action.
