Awaiting justice

Awaiting justice

In April 1993, KMC had announced a project namely Landhi Cottage Industry on Wool Washing Area near Bhains Colony in Landhi, Karachi. Applications were invited along with Rs100 nonrefundable fee, with newspaper ads offering 200 sq-yd plots to educated skilled youths of Karachi. KMC is understood to have earned a handsome amount from applications alone. The project was awarded three months later, in July 1993. I was among the 2,334 successful applicants.
However, despite the passage of more than three decades, KMC has yet to deliver plots to the allottees even though I — and all other allottees like me — have settled all the dues as per the schedule. The allottees have visited the KMC offices several times, but to no avail. A few years ago, NAB had invited complaints from the affected people of various housing schemes and societies through newspaper ads. I had submitted an application with documentary evidence. But there is no progress as yet.
Media reports say that the project land, including buffalo enclosures, has been encroached upon by land grabbers. The affected allottees have also filed a petition in the Sindh High Court for justice.
I request the relevant institutions — KMC, BoR Land Utilization Dept, DC Malir, Sindh CM and NAB Karachi as well as the Mayor Karachi — to pay urgent attention to this matter.
