Minimum wage

Minimum wage

The non-implementation of the government-mandated minimum wage of Rs37,000 has been a pressing concern. Most of the organisations — both in public and private sectors — are hiring workforce through third-party HR companies and paying workers as little as Rs20,000 to Rs30,000 — far below the legal requirement. This exploitation leaves workers unable to cope with the rising living costs and inflation. Many fear losing their jobs if they demand fair wages, while weak enforcement of labour laws allows this practice to continue unchecked. It is essential that authorities take strict action to enforce the minimum wage law, penalise violators and ensure fair compensation for all workers, regardless of their employment source.
