A recent news items quoted Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal as saying that the ‘Uraan Pakistan’ initiative is rooted in the comprehensive 5E Framework – Exports; E-Pakis¬tan; Equity and Empo¬werment; Environment, Food and Water Security; and, Energy and Infrastructure. Fair enough indeed! Prima facie, this seems to be a comprehensive and ambitious programme to completely turn around Pakistan in the years and decades to come!
However, if we had a visionary, hard-working, no-nonsense and honest leader in our midst today, the minister would definitely be implementing a programme of action quite similar to or even more aggressive than ‘Uraan Pakistan’ in style and content.
Meanwhile, good luck to all relevant officials and quarters in the present regime for having seriously thought about ‘institutionalising Pakistan’s march to prosperity’. Don’t we all remember the Marshall Plan back in the 1940s and 1950s and how it completely turned around a war-ravaged Europe. Therefore, no road-map, no prosperity!
