Besides committing war crimes in Gaza, Israel has embarked on a regional rampage, attacking Arab and Muslim states with reckless abandon. The recent bombing of Yemen’s oil production facilities, allegedly aimed at destroying the Houthis operating under the de facto Yemen’s government, is a stark illustration of this aggression. Moreover, Israel’s aggression extends to other regional actors, including Iran, Lebanon and Egypt, complemented by the catastrophic events it has wrought upon the innocent Palestinians.
Although Israel claims its actions are justified as self-defence, this right is limited to armed attack under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Furthermore, Article 2(4) of the Charter prohibits states from interfering in the territorial integrity and political independence of a sovereign state. Consequently, the concept of self-defence as per Article 51 clearly negates Israel’s stance, exposing its baseless claims and portraying its expansionist militarism aimed at countering Iran and its allies.
Israel’s aggression in the region is a ticking time bomb, imperiling regional stability and global peace. Therefore, it is imperative for the international community to take robust actions, holding Israel accountable for its persistent atrocities. Failure to do so will not only undermine international law but also pose a significant threat to global peace and stability.
